Microschool & hybrid program fees

Whether TEFA pays $10,474 or $2,000 at a microschool depends on how the microschool participates.

Can a Houston family pay for this from a TEFA account?

TEFA — private school ($10,474)Conditional / approved vendor only

If the microschool is a participating private school, it is paid like any school.

TEFA — with an IEP (up to $30,000)Conditional / approved vendor only

Same.

TEFA — homeschool / other ($2,000)Conditional / approved vendor only

If the microschool is an approved vendor rather than a school, a homeschool student can pay it from the $2,000.

Rules that apply

  • A microschool becomes a participating school only after accreditation and two years of operation.
  • Lead educators must meet the credential policy.

What isn't allowed

  • Programs not approved in TEFA

In Houston

Prenda and Acton-model microschools in Spring, Tomball, Katy and Humble are listed in the state finder as schools.

How to buy it

Log in to the TEFA parent portal (Odyssey). Pay your school or an approved provider through the platform, or buy approved products in the marketplace. If a provider isn't listed, it has to apply and be approved before it can be paid.
