Why TEFA changes the math for Houston church schools

A congregation with classrooms and a $10,474 account per child can run a small school on funding alone — after two years.

A church campus already has most of what a small school needs. With TEFA paying $10,474 per student, a 60-student church school can be funded largely by accounts.

The catch is timing. To participate in TEFA a school must be accredited by a TEPSAC-recognized organization or TEA and have operated at least two school years. A new school's first two years run on tuition, aid, the $2,000 homeschool tier for hybrid families, and partners.

That is the gap our partner fund and the AmFaith learning-community model are built for. Congregations considering a school can start with our Texas start-up guide.
