School-in-a-Box: how a Houston church launches a school

A step-by-step model for congregations that want a school without building one from scratch.

Year 0: decide the model

A two- or three-day hybrid using AmFaith as the academic core, or a five-day microschool. Use existing classrooms, fellowship halls and playgrounds.

Years 1-2: build the record

TEFA requires two school years of operation and recognized accreditation. During this period families pay tuition, homeschool participants can use the $2,000 account where the program is an approved vendor, and our partner fund helps close gaps.

Year 3: join TEFA

Apply as a participating private school on the rolling application, give the annual norm-referenced test in grades 3-12, and receive $10,474 per accepted student.

Staffing

Lead educators need a relevant credential under the Comptroller's policy and a fingerprint background check.
